Major taxiway nomenclature changes coming to Santa Barbara Municipal Airport (SBA), CA,
SBA will begin construction on or about April 15, 2024, lasting approximately 14 weeks, to improve various markings, signage, and lighting on the airfield. Concurrent with construction progress, existing taxiways will be renamed to meet FAA standards and to enhance pilot situational awareness. The project will present the following impacts to aircraft operation:
- SBA airport will be intermittently NOTAM'd closed from 0000 to 0500 local time. Pilots should consider this when selecting alternate airports for flight planning purposes.
- Incrementally, certain taxiway names will change overnight; for example, taxiway G will become taxiway A1. Numerous taxiways will be renamed throughout the project, pilots should remain vigilant when checking NOTAMs as they will change frequently.
IMPORTANT: Taxiway name changes will NOT align with the airport diagram charting cycle. It is imperative that pilots check NOTAMs frequently and listen to the ATIS carefully for any changes.
During the project, SBA tower will provide progressive taxi instructions to the extent possible. That does not replace pilots' requirements to conduct pre-flight planning. However, if uncertain of any instruction or taxiway location, ASK the tower.
