Introduction

Cold weather is not only uncomfortable, it adds another layer of complexity and care to the operation of our Beech piston airplanes. This program will cover type-specific preflight, ground operations and inflight considerations for cold weather operation, as well as some of the human factors associated with flying in the coldest months of the year, including:

 -  When and how to preheat your engine

 -  The effects of cold weather on flight instruments

 -  Winter baffles: should you use them?

 -  Wintertime preflight inspection considerations

 -  Engine and systems management in extreme cold

 -  Operating on wet, slushy and/or snow-covered runways

 -  Special emphisis on flying in Alaska
