"Return to Field/Engine Failure on Takeoff”
Flight instructors should demonstrate and teach trainees when and how to make a safe 180-degree turn back to the field after an engine failure. Instructors should also train pilots of single-engine airplanes not to make an emergency 180-degree turn back to the field after a failure unless altitude, best glide requirements, and pilot skill allow for a safe return.
Pilots and CFIs, please reference the following:
Paragraph A.11 "How to Teach Pilots to Avoid LOC".
Paragraph A.11.4 "Return to Field / Engine Failure on Takeoff"
Very soon, we will be a hosting a Safety Seminar on this topic at SRQ. In the meantime if you wish to discuss this please contact Tampa FAASTeam Lead Representative & Master Pilot Dick J. Petrucci at tucci61@verizon.net
