Title:
CFIT and Overreliance on Automation
Topic:
How to Avoid CFIT and Automation Induced Accidents
Date and Time:
Thursday, November 21, 2019, starting at 19:00 Pacific Standard Time Download Calendar File
Speaker(s):
Art Hayssen, Jim McCord
Brief Description:

CFIT identifies accidents where a pilot flies a perfectly good airplane, under control, into terrain.  We will look at some example accidents and causal factors and identify ways to avoid CFIT accidents in our own flying.  In some cases, CFIT accidents come about as a result of over reliance on automation – the autopilot may be flying you perfectly under control into the ground.  We will look at some automation related accidents and incidents and explore how automation can be used to help, not hinder, your flying.

How to avoid CFIT and Automation Induced Accidents.

With the days getting shorter and nights longer many of us will be flying more after dark this time of year.  CFIT risk increases as the ability to see terrain (either through darkness or in IMC) decreases.

Many thanks to our sponsors: Pacific Coast Air Museum for sponsoring this event’s meeting location, RAM Aviation for our refreshments and Art and Jim for presenting this evening’s presentation.
